Remember that time I told you I was going on a sabbatical to focus on my book proposal? You'll be happy to hear the proposal revisions are coming along splendidly. Tomorrow my focus turns toward the sample chapters. Yay! (Positive reframing writing as a fun, exciting process, instead of the tough discipline it can be.)
Remember how I asked you to subscribe to my blog because publishers look at such numbers? Quite a few of you did subscribe and I will love you forever for it.
But. Did you happen to see the news last week that Google Reader is going away? Come July 1, our Readers will disappear forever into Google-land. I have to admit this news freaked me out at first. I use Reader for the bulk of my blog reading habit and I know quite a few of you follow my blog through Reader as well.
Had I just asked you to subscribe for nothing?!
(I can be a little dramatic on the weekend.)
Thankfully, quite a few posts about Reader alternatives have been floating about the blogosphere. The top two seem to be Bloglovin' and Feed.ly. This morning I made the switch to Bloglovin'. And so far, I really like it.
I chose Bloglovin' because my friend Jen told me they have a Next button. Google Reader's Next button is my favorite thing because it allowed me to visit the blog, giving the blogger a pageview and also gaining the aesthetic of the site. Honestly, losing the Next button was probably the biggest source of my woe. But now I don't have to be Next-less anymore!
I also like Bloglovin' because reading a blog through their reader also counts as a pageview for the blog itself. Plus, it synced to my Reader and switched everything over. There was one hiccup: somehow Cup-A Cup-A was swapped out with a different blog I'd never heard of before. I unfollowed that one and added Cup-A Cup-A back in. Done and done.
Obviously, you have until July 1 to make the switch from Reader to something else. If you're like me, you follow blogs through a mix of email, Reader, and FB/Twitter. Things will continue on as usual for awhile. But I decided not to procrastinate and make the switch right away.
If you want to switch over to Bloglovin', you can go here and follow my blog.
In other news: Happy St. Patrick's Day!
